It's Almost Recital Day!
Last night was our first dress rehearsal for our 19th annual recital, "Dancing Through The Years"! Wow, 19th annual recital! It's hard to believe it's been that long. And yet, every year the recital is just as exciting as the very first one. I hope I never get tired of it!
Last night was awesome. The dancers all did such a great job and everyone was relaxed and enjoying themselves. So often you hear horror stories about dance recitals and dress rehearsals - teachers yelling, parents and kids arguing... Well, I've been saying it for a while now, and I'll say it again, "It's different at Premier". Now I'm sure there was an occasional disagreement between mother and daughter about hair or lipstick, but in general, the atmosphere was upbeat and positive. It made me so proud to be a part of such an amazing group. There were a few times when dancers struggled a little with their dances, but there were only positive vibes going through the auditorium. Our teachers cheerfully helped dancers who were struggling, we reminded everyone that we were there to have fun, not to be stressed out - and smiles contagiously spread through the auditorium.
It's live theater. Anything can happen in live theater! Here's a few comical things that have happened to me on stage at recitals; As a kid, I used to twirl baton and during one recital I dropped my baton about a dozen times during the dance and finally I dropped it and it rolled off the stage! I threw my hands up in the air, shrugged and everyone laughed. Another time the strap of my tap costume broke while we were dancing. We were taught to never touch our costume, so I just kept tapping, hoping that the recital would remain a family show! And for the big ending pose, I put one arm up in the air and grabbed the top of my costume with the other hand! I think my dad was about to have heart failure! In college, I invited friends to see me perform a pointe dance. I was wearing a big, romantic-length tutu and fell on my butt! Tutu over my head, legs and arms everywhere! And the last time I danced on stage, I actually fell and broke my wrist during dress rehearsal. But the next day, with my wrist tightly wrapped, I got on stage and did that darn tap dance! The show must go on, right?
And this show will go on tomorrow night and it will be spectacular! Thank you dancers for all of your hard work! You will be stars tomorrow!
